Gabon citizens demonstrate before UNESCO HQ
During his visit in France, Paris the national teachers Union representative Marcel Libama, alongside with some other Gabonese demonstrated last April 4th right before the UNESCO headquarters to raise people awareness on the educational situation of Gabon.
Actually for 2 months now, the Government and the Unions observed an iron fist. Therefore, invited by the French NGO ‘Survie’ Marcel Libama took advantage of his presence in the French capital to explain the Unions motivation not to cease the strike and accept to compromise with the Government.
Among the reasons, he remembered that the Unionists: “refuse the Government’s proposal to increase 18 per cent of the salary. They claim for the increase of the minimum wage from 80,000 CFA Francs to 300,000 CFA Francs”.
This refuse of compromising from the Unions pushed the Government to suspend strikers teachers’ salaries. However, the Unionists stood strong on their position even if this implies a blank year.
