Welfare Minister shared Gabon’s vision for Women at UN Commission in New York
Gabon recently took part to the workshop of the 59th session of the UN-women’s vision in New York. Social welfare Minister, Marie-Françoise Dikoumba echoed the Gabonese policies for the empowerment of women.

Thus, through a statement, it reported the advances of Gabon since the Beijing Declaration of 1995. Twenty years later, according to the Member of the Government, progress for the promotion of equity and equality between men and women have materialized in various actions in the recognition many rights.

The creation of a Ministerial Department in charge of the advancement of women, the establishment of focal points in the various ministries, the adoption in 2009 of the national strategy of equity and gender equality (SNEEG), accompanying measures aimed at women, the Organization of workshops and seminars, the revision of legal frameworks containing deemed discriminatory provisions and, above all, promoting the strategic political positions and decision-making in the context of the quota of 30% of women are among these important decisions.

All things since then, strengthened by the decision of the head of State, Ali Bongo Ondimba, to proclaim 2015-2025, the Decade of women.

The representative of Gabon argued that our country is working in the implementation of policies to ensure not only the empowerment of women, but above all, their right to a dignified life, free from poverty. Not without that education, the right to decent work, the reduction of maternal mortality, the right to health care and social protection are all elements that are involved in the implementation of this policy in favor of the women.
